Nearly one year after I started this blog, Jon and I have come one step closer to our dream of having a farm. On October 29, we went into escrow on a 6 acre property with a lovely little house and lots of room for our big plans. It has been over two months of agony. Dealing with the banks, mortgage broker, seller, appraisers and inspectors has been defeating and exhausting to say the least. I can’t say that I wouldn’t have backed out of it had the place not been so AMAZING. We closed escrow on January 5th, and it was totally anticlimactic. It was such a long, hard process I almost need a parade or something to make it seem real. First things first. We have to make the house livable. This means kitchen remodel, new flooring and paint throughout, ripping down walls and installing new lighting. The next step is getting the outside ready to plant. We need a ton of drainage help, the recent storms have show us how bad it can get flooded and the coop will need to be built. It’s going to take a lot of work, but it has the potential to become the little farm we’ve hoped for. Sit back and enjoy the view.
