Eggplant patchSo even though they are there, 7 of them, I have completely ignored them in the blog thus far.  The Aubergines. They are doing surprisingly well considering they are in the cucumber/squash/green bean bed. They are one of the most amazing plants to me. The plant itself is significantly small for the fruit it supports.  The flowers are beyond strange,  the petals are so thick! eggplant formingWhen a fruit starts to form, a little hard ball appears inside of the flower casing and eventually pushes the little flower off. baby eggplantThe difference between this formation in each eggplant variety is astonishing. We have two Italian varieties (of course D’Arnold) but they are completely different.
